The sewing machine called my name

I finally heard the call of my sewing machine.  It feels like it has been forever since I had a chance to so some sewing.  I have three quilts that are ready for binding.  I know it looks like a holiday explosion, two Christmas quilts and a Halloween quilt.  The two Christmas quilts are presents for my two great nephews, they are just alike except one has a green border fabric the other a black border fabric.  I have decided that everyone in my family needs their own Christmas quilt.  The Halloween quilt, I have to get the binding on before I head off to retreat later this week (more on that later)  I even managed to finish the latest installment of the Star Crazy blocks.  I am really anxious to see how this quilt is going to look when it is finished.  After doing some sewing I started looking through all of my projects trying to decided what to take to quilt camp this week.  I decided not to do the project that Sharon and Shannon were offering.  I liked it, but it involved buying a new ruler and I didn't want to go out and buy more fabric.  I am trying really hard to work from my stash.  Considering how big my stash is that shouldn't be a problem.  I am really excited about retreat this year, my friend Becky is going for the first time.  The only bad thing is I am having an allergy attack and hope to be feeling better before we leave on Thursday morning.

July Star Crazy

This week I have been trying to get caught up on some of my BOM's.  One that I really didn't want to get behind on is the Star Crazy BOM.  I  just finished the July blocks.  I hope to complete August before the September blocks come out next week.  I really do like the way the blocks are turning out.  I am getting a lot of paper piecing practice. This is the first quilt I have done that has this much paper piecing in it.

Catching Up

This weekend was a catch up weekend for me. DH and his best friend went to our cabin for a little bit of work and relaxation. I used the time to get caught up on some things around the house. Saturday morning I met my friends Kristie and Becky at Sweet Home for a little shopping therapy. I was good, bought backing for one quilt two patterns, and two charm packs. Then it was off to the grocery store and to Belks to look for some new clothes and a purse. Managed to find everything that I was looking for. Then it was time to head home, did a little cleaning then headed to the sewing room. I was two months behind on the Star Crazy BOM, managed to catch up on that. I really like the way the blocks are turning out. After that I made a pair of Capri pants, and finished a skirt that I had started a couple of weeks ago. Today has been spent just relaxing and getting ready for the last week of school.

Star Crazy for March

I almost didn't get the March blocks completed, but I was determined. I really like the fabrics that I have selected. The rust fabric isn't actually as dark as it looks in the photos, it might be a little too dark, but I am not starting over. I can't wait to see how all of the blocks are going to look when finished.

More Star Crazy

This weekend has been absolutely gorgeous!!! Big change from all of the snow last weekend. It has also been a really busy weekend. Yesterday was spent at our county Readers Rally, very glad that is over with. Last night we went to a concert, saw Keb Mo, Kevin So, ans Susan Weirner, it was a Valentine present for hubby. We both really enjoyed it. Today was spent catching up on odds and ends. One goal for the weekend was to make my Star Crazy blocks for February, I don't want to get behind. I also wanted to make my January blocks for my Civil War Tribute quilt, my latest block of the month from Homestead Hearth. I managed to get both complete. I am very please with how the star crazy blocks are turning out. As I said earlier the colors are a little out of my comfort zone but I do like them. The civil war block is more "me".

Star Crazy

While catching up on reading blogs last month, I found this wonderful star pattern BOM. It is through The Quilt Show, that is sponsored by Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. When I saw it, I knew that I had to do it. Stars are my absolute favorite pattern. I finally finished the January blocks, you can see them to the right. I have almost finished the ones for February. I am also excited that I am able to use up some of my stash on this project. I did have to buy the white for the background and a couple of the fabrics for the stars. I went through my stash first to see what I had, then went to the quilt shop. I am stepping out of my comfort zone on this one. I am actually following the colors on the website, they are very bright and I am more of a traditional kind of person. I do like the way the first month has turned out. Apparently hubby does too, he never mentions anything on my design wall, but he make a comment about these blocks and how much he liked them. I hope to finish the ones for February this weekend.
