School's out for summer!!!

Woo Hwooo!!! School's out. I can't believe that school is out. The school year went by really fast, but I am glad that it is over with. It takes me a while to get a routine for the summer. Last week I tried to get a few things done around the house. Cleaning and some yard work done. I was doing ok until I hurt my shoulder trimming some bushes. I think I tore my rotator cuff, whatever I did it was extremely painful. After that I decided the bushes could wait. On Friday I met a friend and went to see Angels and Demons. I am not a big movie goer but it was really good.

I am looking forward to tomorrow, I am off to the mountains with my friends Becky and Pat for a mini quilt retreat. We are going to the cabin for some major relaxing and sewing. It is going to be so much fun.

And the Winner Is!!!!

I swear this was not fixed. I asked my husband to pick a random number for my blog give away and he picked by quilting buddy Becky, the Quilting Book Lady. This is really weird because I won her give away a few weeks ago. Congrats, Becky. Will get your stuff to you when we go quilting next week.

Off to the Quilter!!

I finally finished the graduation quilt that I have been working on for my husband's goddaughter. She is graduating from high school tonight, needless to say she won't be getting a present from us tonight. I think she will like it, she is heading off to UGA this fall, I made her a pink Georgia Girl quilt. I used the Yellow Brick Road pattern which makes up very quickly, when you work on it. This isn't the best picture, but I wanted to get one before I sent it off. I am also counting this for my UFO for May. So far I have finished one project each month. I hope to get it back in a couple of weeks and get the binding on. Wish me luck.

100th POST!!!

I can't believe that this is my 100th blog post. I started a little over a year ago, after much encouragement from my friend Becky, the Quilting Book Lady. I have found that I really enjoy blogging. I like to keep up with what everyone is doing in different parts of the country and share what is going on in my little part of the world. I even have a giveaway for this special occasion. I have a charm pack in the new Moda Aviary, two patterns and a book. The drawing will be on Monday May 25, Memorial Day. Leave a comment and have your name entered into the drawing. Mention your favorite quilting book and have it entered twice. I am always on the lookout for great quilting books.

Mini Family Reunion

This year for Mother's Day my brother, his girlfriend,
his daughter, her husband and three kids all went to my mom's house for the weekend. That is the first time that has happened in more years that I care to admit. It was also my great-nephew's third birthday and we had a party for him on Sunday. (he is the little one in his dad's lap) All of the Aunt's, and Uncle's were there along with most of the cousins. We went for years without having any kids in the family and now there are 5 little ones. My niece's youngest, Vivienne was napping when this shot was taken, she is only 5 months old. I got to meet her for the first time this weekend, and it was the first time I had seen the boys since last September at my dad's funeral. It was sad to think this was the first time we were all together without him. I think he was probably smiling down on us from heaven. I am sure that he had something to do with the weather clearing off long enough for us to have the birthday party outside on Saturday. Here is the birthday boy getting a little help from his great grandmother opening some presents.

I had a surprise waiting for me at work today, my prize from Becky, the Quilting Book Lady. I love my gift. There is a great T-shirt quilt pattern, a charm pack, that is just absolutely beautiful, a red and white fat quarter (red is my all time favorite color) and not one, but two Elmer's Gold Brick Eggs. Becky and I had talked about how good these were when she came back from visiting her family during spring break. I just ate one and they are as delicious as I remember. Thanks so much Becky.

Teacher Appreciation

This week is teacher appreciation week at our school and I got the best present ever. A kindergarten student came into the media center yesterday with a handful of clover flowers and said, "These are for you for teacher day for reading to us." I thought it was the sweetest gift a child could have given me. I still have them on my desk, which that could be the reason my allergies are really bothering me today.

Where did the weekend go?

I always have such grand plans for the weekends,
and never get around to doing everything that I plan on doing. I spent mostof Saturday cleaning house. It definitely needed it, since we were out of town last weekend and will be out of town for Mother's Day. I know I have the afternoons, but by the time I get home and cook dinner I don't feel like cleaning house. I did finish up to applique blocks. My friend Krisite, got me hooked on the Carrie Hall Sample from Homestead Hearth. I have two months completed now. The block to the right is the first month. It was actually a lot

easier than I thought it would be. Kristie is doing the country version, and I decided to do the batik version. The other two blocks were actually the third month, the block for the second month looks really had and I skipped it. I have started working on it. I really like the way Homestead Hearth does their block of the month kits. Everything is clearly labeled and there is always enough fabric.
I also finished the book I was reading, Down Where my Love Lives by Charles Martin. I have read several of his other books and really enjoyed them. This was actually his first book, which I think has been republished. If you are looking for a good read, I would highly recommend it.
