Yesterday was the Sue Spargo workshop sponsored by The East Cobb Quilt Guild. I had been looking forward to it all week. On Friday night I got some of my things together but not everything, deciding instead to get up early Saturday morning and get everything together, start some laundry and make my grocery list. I set up clock (DH was out of town), went to bed late and woke up at 8:20. The workshop started at 9:30 and was on the other side of town. I hurriedly showered, got dressed, got all of my materials together and took off; taking my coffee with me. I was about 5 minutes from the house when I spilt my coffee all over me. No time to go home and change I would just have huge coffee spots all over me. I got there and realized that the one thing I forgot was my lunch, it was an all day workshop. Things could only get better from here, and thankfully they did. I knew a few people in the workshop, people I had not seen in forever and it was great to see them. Sue Spargo is wonderful. She is extremely knowledgeable about wool and all kinds of stitchery. The project for the day was a sampler of 12 different flowers. I worked on three different flowers. I realized that there are a lot of stitches out there that I have never heard of before.
When I first moved to Atlanta about 26 years ago, ( I can't believe it has been that long) I didn't have allergies, now it seems like I have them all of the time. Spring has been really bad for me the last couple of years. I don't know what it is that I am allergic to but I want it to go away!!! I have gone through two boxes of tissues in the last week. Ugh!!!! The one high point of the week was speaking at the Gwinnett Quilt Guild. I had the best time. I did a talk on collecting/appraising quilts, would love to do this full time.
Today in between blowing my nose and sniffing I finished prepping my piece for the Sue Spargo workshop next Saturday. I am really looking forward to seeing how she does some of her stitches. I really didn't want to buy her wool kit since I have my own hand dyed wool but it was part of the class that you had to buy the kit. I have the flowers ready to go on the back ground can't wait to see what she has us do.
Can't believe how busy I have been the last couple of weeks. School is extremely busy, we are working 30 minutes more each day to make up for some of the snow days that we missed. You wouldn't think that 30 minutes would make that much difference, but it does. It is about 5:00 when I get home, have to cook dinner, been dyeing lots of wool, which leaves no time for sewing. I did manage to get this Sue Spargo needle roll finished. I like the way that it turned out, but I have discovered that her patterns arent' the best when it comes to directions. I am glad that I had a sewing knowledge when I started putting this together. I bought this as a kit several years ago and it got pushed to the back of a drawer, found it a couple of weeks ago and decided to get it made. I am planning on taking a Sue Spargo workshop in a couple of weeks with the Cobb Quilt Guild. Can't wait to see what she has to say in her workshop.
Yesterday was Wacky Wednesday at school, we are celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday with a different activity each day. Yesterday was wacky day and you should have seen some of the kids. You should have seen me!!! I went all out with camo pants, a stripe shirt and a hat with tule and a bird on it. The kids and the teachers didn't know what to think. This is me with one of our kindergarten teachers and some of her students.
Today is the birthday of Dr. Suess. Can't wait for all of the celebrations at school this coming week. The following is my favorite quote from Dr. Seuss. If we could all just pay more attention to Dr. Seuss, the world would probably be a better place.
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”
