Christmas Through the Year

One of my goals this year is to make at least one Christmas present each month, (I like to have  my stuff done by Thanksgiving so I don't stress too much).  Another goal is to make up some of the kits that I have in my sewing room.  This month I was able to do both. Actually I started this kit last a couple of months ago, it is a really old Moda Three Sisters line and kit.  When I started it I thought I would give it to my brother and his wife, but as I worked on it I realized that it looked exactly like my aunt.  It is a really easy pattern and Leisa did a wonderful job quilting it.  The only thing I have left to do is make a label and finish the pillowcase that I am making out of leftover fabric.  I love Christmas and decided a couple of years ago that I would make everyone in my family a Christmas quilt.  Last year I made my two great nephews and my great niece quilts, since I decided to give this one to  my aunt, I need to dig through my stash of kits and find one to give to my brother.

"Where are my t-shirts?"

This was a question from my DH last week, when he was looking for a t-shirt t put on to work in the garden.  My response, "I had to put some in the rag bag because they were so old, and had holes in them".  "All of them, some of those were my favorites".  Crossing my fingers, "I can dig them out if you really want them back".  "No, I will just go buy some cheap ones at CVS."  Yes, I lied to my DH about his t-shirts, I had to.  Well, it was only a partial lie, part of the shirts are in the rag bag, the part that was left after I cut them up!  I am making my very first t-shirt quilt.  DH and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary this summer and I decided to make him a quilt with t-shirts from each vacation we have had in the last 15 years.  I have most of the t-shirts cut with the stabilizer on the back.  I have also got the background with the borders attached.  The hard part is going to be deciding how to place the t-shirts on the background.  Got to get busy, our anniversary is in June.

Design Wall Monday

Comfort and Joy still on the design wall, I have three sections complete.  I am loving the way that it looks.  Thanks so much Pat for making such a great pattern.  I have most of the other elements finished, just have to sew them together.  I want to get all of  the blocks sewn together so I can  start the applique on the borders.

Mental Health Day

With only five weeks of school left, I really shouldn't have taken a day off,  however; I just had to.  I am a member of the Gwinnett County Quilt, but I usually only go to the meetings during the summer.  Yesterday, the guest speaker was Teddy Pruett, a quilt appraiser from Florida.  Quilt appraising is a huge interest of mine so I had to be there.  It was a wonderful  program. If you ever have the chance to see Teddy, please take advantage of it, she is sooooo funny.  I was her "Vanna" during the program.  (that means that I didn't get to take a lot of photos.)  Here are some of her "story quilts".  The one at the top is a military quilt made in honor of her father.  Most of her "story quilts"  are made from recycled materials many from Goodwill, and other found items.
This is part of her "marriage story" quilt.  It contains pieces of hand towels, aprons, and other found items.
I absolutely love this quilt.  It was made in honor of Teddy's church friends.  Look closely to see what the choir robes are made of.  I have lots of those Crown Royal bags laying around.  I think I am inspired.
I will never think of this as an apple core quilt again, it is now known as the panty liner quilt.  This quilt was tiny, inspired from a larger quilt in Teddy's collection.

I wish that I had been able to photograph more of her quilts, but check out her website for some great photos.

Stash Busting

I can't believe that it has been two weeks since I have posted on my blog.  Time flies, when you are having fun or not.  I was out of town for a week at my mom's house, and there is no Internet access there.  In a way that is really nice, but then you realize just how  much you use the Internet.  This is actually a stash busting report for two weeks:

Here goes:
This week:
Stash in:  3 yards
Stash out: 0 yards

This year:
Stash in:  50 yards
Stash out:  22 yards

I have got to get more stash going out.  At least most of the stash that I have coming in , I have a purpose for.
