Memorial Day
This photo was taken in in Marion, Virginia, at the court square. A flag is put up for each member of the community that has been killed in a war. Some of the flags have names dating back to the Civil War. It was beautiful!! DH and I walked by this on our way to a reunion picnic at a cousin's house. We stopped to read many of the names and actually found two of his relatives names there.

Catching Up
This weekend was a catch up weekend for me. DH and his best friend went to our cabin for a little bit of work and relaxation. I used the time to get caught up on some things around the house. Saturday morning I met my friends Kristie and Becky at Sweet Home for a little shopping therapy. I was good, bought backing for one quilt two patterns, and two charm packs. Then it was off to the grocery store and to Belks to look for some new clothes and a purse. Managed to find everything that I was looking for. Then it was time to head home, did a little cleaning then headed to the sewing room. I was two months behind on the Star Crazy BOM, managed to catch up on that. I really like the way the blocks are turning out. After that I made a pair of Capri pants, and finished a skirt that I had started a couple of weeks ago. Today has been spent just relaxing and getting ready for the last week of school.

Bloggers Quilt Festival
One of my favorite things in the blogging world is the Bloggers Quilt Festival, sponsored by Amy's Creative Side I always love looking at all of the quilts everyone puts up. For some reason this year I haven't gotten very much accomplished. I have finished two quilts and one of them has become one of my favorites, Glory Bound. It was a kit from Silver Thimble that I started last year and finished back in March. It is one of my favorites because I love the fabrics, which are mostly civil war repros. I actually thought about making it bigger but decided that I had made all of the half square triangles that I wanted to for a while.

Block #5
I can't seem to get much sewing done, other stuff keeps getting in the way of my sewing time. I did get to Thimbles on Friday night. It was great to see everyone, although I didn't stay too late. I am still working on my Bonnie Hunter Patches and Pinwheels, it is easy to do and not something that I have to think about a lot. (which is good for Thimbles, since I tend to visit as much as sew). I am two months behind on the Star Crazy Blocks. I have the fabrics out and ready to go. I hope to get those done this week, I don't want to get to far behind on those. I did finish Block #5 of Moose on the Porch Jelly Roll BOM. I really like the way the blocks are turning out. It is hard to see, but I did fussy cut the center block, it has two flags on it. I also had to end up piecing one of the borders, I didn't read the directions carefully. I seem to be doing that a lot lately. Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday evening.

Happenings at the cabin
Friday night while heading to the cabin, Joe and I realized that it had been a month since we had been up for a weekend. Sometimes life just gets in the way!!! A lot had happened in a the last month. All of the trees are fully leafed out, the wildflowers have already bloomed and the blackberries were in full bloom. We also had a surprise waiting for us, with all of the wind and rain from the recent storms we had a huge tree down that caused a sinkhole in our driveway. It was one of the trees that we had been thinking about getting taken down, we just didn't do it in time. It will require some major work this week.
We also have had a new neighbor move in, meet Sam the black snake. Saturday morning while walking up to check out the damage the tree had caused I almost stepped on a long black snake. Of course my first thought was kill it, then Joe said it was one of the good guys and would eat the bad snakes. I have to admit that I am not up on snakes, to me all snakes are bad snakes. We noticed that it hung around in the driveway all day even trying to get in on the turkey frying action. I decided if he was going to join the party he might as well have a name, so he became Sam. I am anxious to see if he will still be around when we go back.

New cookbook
This year one thing we (media specialists) have been encouraged to work on is the promotion of our programs and our media center. In the current economy with some districts getting rid of media specialists this is very important. One thing I have done all year to promote my media center is what I call, Book Bites; the first Friday of each month I bring in a treat for the teachers and pull a display of books to go with it. Our kindergarten teachers are wrapping up a unit on Georgia so I wanted to do something with a Georgia theme. We also are in the middle of a 1/2 price staff appreciation book fair, and I found a new cook book that I just had to have. I found a recipe for a Peanut Butter Texas Sheet Cake that I wanted to try.
It turned out great. I just barely managed to get a shot of it before my husband dug into it. I am a big fan of peanut butter and this has just enough peanut butter flavor to it. I made one change to the recipe, it called for creamy peanut butter and all I had was crunchy. It added a little crunch to it.

Skirt finally finished
I finally finished the skirt that I was working on and am really happy with the way it looks. I tried a new pattern and you never know how that will turn out. It was very quick to make or it would have been if I had worked on it.
You really can't tell much about it from the picture. I used the view from that pattern that is shown in green. I used a rayon crinkle that is black with a tiny cream colored flower. I have several different tops that I can wear with it. I am trying to make the best use of what I have and not end up with skirts that I have nothing to wear with or tops and no bottoms.
Now I can get back to some quilting!

Block Five
I have done no sewing all week until today, and I told myself I had to finish the next block from the Moose on the Porch BOM. Here it is. It took me twice as long as it should have because I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the which way the diagonal went in the blocks. I had to take one section out and redo. After that I decided my mind probably wasn't on sewing after all. I have a skirt that I desperately need to finish. My plan is to do that tomorrow night. Hope I am successful.
