Pigs Everywhere

It has been a while since I posted, probably because I am exhausted every night when I get home from school.  That also means that there is little or no sewing happening at my house,  hopefully this will change soon.  Since there is no sewing to show, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show off some of my pigs.  It seems like pigs are everywhere, big pigs, small pigs, pink ones, blue ones, yellow ones, stuffed ones, painted ones, ceramic ones.  They are every where.  The pig painting at the left was in a restaurant we visiting while on vacation in Waynesville, North Carolina.  Loved it but not at 250.00.

I don't have pigs every where it just looks like it.  I grew up on a farm where we had pigs, and I was always fascinated with them.  I even sang to them.  My brother always told me that is why the meat was sometimes tough.  (and if you have ever heard me sing you would agree).  When I became a media specialist and discovered Olivia, my love for pigs was reborn.  I try to keep them all at school, it is something that I can keep there and share with the students.  However, I do have a few at home that DH has given me over the years.  My favorite one is a little one that was under our Christmas tree a few years ago, wearing a beautiful ring for a bracelet.  I could get used to that kind of pig.  Is there any animal that you notice where ever you are?

National Pig Day, Oh, my!!

How did I miss this yesterday?  I have no idea.  My only excuse is that it has been one of those weeks, if it could go wrong it has.  Not only have things gone wrong at home but at school.  My big problem has been a scheduled author visit for today that has been planned for months, and she didn't show.  Do you have any idea what it is like to have 100 second grade students sitting in front of you waiting for a "famous author"  who never shows up?  It is not pleasant!!  I did everything but stand on my head to entertain them, thinking that she was just running late and would show up any minute. She did finally call, 40 minutes after her first program was to start.  It was not east explaining to an entire school that the program was cancelled because the author got lost.  Trying to get it rescheduled.  The only bright spot in the week has been the delivery of a box from the Fat Quarter Shop.  (more on that tomorrow)

Pigs and Quilts

I think is amazing that no matter where you travel you always find things that interest you, like pigs and quilts. My DH and I just came back from a few days in Asheville, NC and I managed to find plenty of both pigs and quilts. We actually went up for the Belle Chere festival, which is always wonderful. It is a combination, art, craft and music festival that is held in downtown Asheville the third weekend in July. The arts and crafts are always outstanding and the music is wonderful, we always hear some really good bands. This year we went up a couple of days early just to have some quiet time away from everything and everyone. We went to Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Bat Cave, The North Carolina Arboretum, Mt. Mitchell, The Vance Birthplace, and Craggy Gardens. When we go on vacation, we usually don't miss anything. The pig statues were at one of the squares in Asheville. I don't know for sure why they were there, but there were cute. I noticed that I wasn't the only person taking a photo of them. I also found pigs in several restaurants, and at the blue Ridge Parkway Visitor's Center. Quilts were also in several different places. Several were painted on the sides of old barns and different buildings that we passed. The one above is on display at the North Carolina Arboretum. It was beautiful. I wanted to get to the quilt shop in Black Mountain but we ran out of time.
I can't believe that I only have one week before school starts back, hope I can get some of my sewing projects finished.

When Pigs Fly

If you know me, you know that I like pigs, especially flying pigs. Early last month I found this cute flannel fabric with flying pigs. When I saw it I knew that I had to have some, but what to do with flying pig fabric, make pj bottoms of course. Well things got busy and I put it aside until last weekend, yes I know that it is almost spring and too warm for flannel, but I made them anyway. I didn't really need any more pj's but I have never let that get in the way of purchasing more fabric.

I also managed to work on my Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt that I started last month. I don't think I ever took a picture of block #1, but here is block #2. I bought a Civil War Crossings Jelly Roll with a gift certificate that I received for Christmas, and I already had a neutral fabric to use, I just needed to purchase a border fabric.
I really am trying to use up some of my fabric. So far the blocks have been very simple and easy to do. I am promising myself no more BOM's. They can become addictive!!!!
