Great Giveaway

I am so excited to be a small part of Handmade Christmas Cheer by Pat Wys.  When Pat started writing this book, she knew that she wanted to include several wool projects and wanted me to supply the wool!!!  I couldn't believe it.  What an opportunity, I was soooooo excited.  I was even more excited  a few weeks ago to see a copy of the book.  Every project in the book is absolutely over the top.  If you are going to purchase a new Christmas book this year, this is definitely the one to buy.  I received a copy of the book from Pat's publisher, Martingale, to use in a giveaway.  So here goes.  To win a copy of Handmade Christmas Cheer and a bundle of 4 fat quarters, one each in red, green, blue and white.  Perfect for any Christmas project.  For an opportunity to win, go over to Pig in a Blanket Wools  and leave a comment about your favorite type of handwork, wool applique, applique, stitchery or something else. The winner will be announced on Sunday.  Good luck.

More Applique Blocks

Still working on my Christmas Reel applique blocks.  You can see four of them here but I actually have 7 of them done.  Only two more to go, plus all of the half square triangle blocks for the first border.  I can definitely tell that my applique has gotten better over the course of  my blocks.
I have also been working on more wool.  You can see some of my "spring"colors above.  I  love not knowing exactly how the wool is going to turn out.  But the really good thing is that in most cases if it doesn't turn out the way you think it will you can redye it and it will turn out better the second time in most cases.

I am enjoying reading about the types of hand work that everyone enjoys doing.  Check out my giveaway and tell me about your favorite type of handwork.

Birthday Give Away

Every year during February I host a special give away to celebrate my birthday.  This year I decided to do a wool give away, since I have spent so much time in the last year thinking about wool, working with wool, dyeing wool, or packing wool up for shipping.  I found this great pattern from Primitive Gatherings for  a penny pillow.  I have one ready to applique, you can see it in the photo below.  All of the wools are my own hand dyes.   I always have some type of hand work that I can do at night while I am watching TV with my DH.  For years I did counted cross-stitch, I still enjoy it but don't do it so much.  After counted cross-stitch I went to stitchery, like Crabapple Hill, that is still probably my favorite.  I have a Christmas Crabapple Hill pattern that I am working on.  Recently I have been doing either applique or wool applique.  Wool applique is so easy, you don't have to turn back the edges.  Love it.  I have this pillow all ready to go along with one that just has stars on it.
To enter the give away all you have to do is leave a comment about your favorite kind of hand work. If you want an extra chance to win just become a follower, for another chance blog about it on your blog.  If you are the winner you will receive the pattern and  all of the wool that you need to make plenty of pennies for this cute pillow.   All of the wool is hand dyed and treated so that it will not fade.  The only thing you will have to supply will be the back ground for the pillow. I will announce a winner on February 15th.  Good luck.

New FO

This year I  decided to not only try to get some of my
UFO's finihsed, but to start some new ones!  There is  nothing like getting into a new pattern and a new stack of fabric to motivate you.  Last year I purchased a pattern from my friend Pat over at Silver Thimble Quilt Co. called Comfort and Joy.  The minute I saw this design I knew that I had to have it. I love Christmas quilts and this one was out of this world.  It took me some time to decide what fabrics I wanted to use, especially for the background.  I bought fabric for the background three times, before I was finally happy.  I hope to finish this one in time to get it quilted for this Christmas, however; I don't know if that will happen or not.  I just finished the gingerbread basket block last night.
I am doing all of the applique by hand, this keeps me busy at night while DH is watching TV.  I love am so happy that I decided on the polka dot  background.  I made on change in the gingerbread bock, instead of a flag on the left hand side I decided to add another candy cane.  I am not a huge flag person and thought that they candy cane looked ok there.
Don't forget about the Bali Pop giveaway that I a having for my birthday.  If you leave a comment you could win a Mulberry Bali pop.

MIA

I fell like it has been ages since I have even thought about blogging.  I know that I am overdue to announce the winner of my birthday give away part II.  Things have been really crazy in my little world. I had a birthday, met my new principal for next year, (he seems very nice), had Valentine's Day, a stomach bug (that you don't want to hear about), and a very good neighbor passed away.  All of that in just the last week.  The birthday was wonderful, hubby made it a very special day, roses and wonderful dinner at my favorite restaurant, a cake, and a pair of red shoes that I have been wanting forever.  Shoes might not sound at all romantic but I have been admiring these shoes for 2 years.  I have been having camera problems so no photo for now but soon.  I also received tons of cards from the kids at school.  I love getting cards made by kids, they always say exactly what they are thinking on them.  Valentine's Day was great too!!  I made a special dinner for hubby, lamb chops, roasted broccoli, wild rice and a chocolate truffle pie.  The pie was a big hit.  The only sad spot has been the passing of our dear neighbor Walter Robertson.  Walter was a WWII vet, who just last week received the Medal of Valor from the French government.  He passed away very quietly on Saturday afternoon.

Now for the winner of my second birthday give away, Sandie call me crazy in Washington.  Send me your address and I will get your books in the mail.
With everything that has been going on there has been absolutely no sewing, which I am really missing.  Thimbles is this weekend and I am so looking forward to sewing, seeing everyone, and hearing about Elijay.
