Design Wall Monday

This is my design wall today.  I just finished the last project I had up on the wall.  Yeah!!!! I am heading to Stitch In tomorrow and have packed more projects that I can even think about finishing packed up and ready to go.  I am finishing up the last step in the mystery quilt that I am working on.   I also have the last swap project to work on,  I have about half of those strips done.  I also have a couple of charm square projects packed up.  (no photos because everything is already in the car)

Finally finished Comfort and Joy, this is one of my friend Pat's patterns.  I love the variety of blocks on this quilt.  Now to get it quilted before Christmas.

I am working on the binding my DH's t-shirt quilt.  For those of you that read my blog you remember last  month I gave this to DH for our 15th anniversary and he hated it.  It was quilted yet and I thought well  maybe he will like it better after it is quilted.  I picked it up on Friday from Leisa and immediatedly started on the binding.  Can't wait to see if DH likes it better after it is finished.

After finishing the binding I have a lable to go on the back, I picked one of my favorite quotes from Winnie the Pooh:
"If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you." ( I had second thoughts about this after his reaction to the quilt.)

Design Wall Monday

I finished one of my New FO'S, Past Times, this is the kit that I have had for more years that I can remember.  When I started it I thought I would give it to my brother and his wife for Christmas, however, after finishing the top I decided that it really looked like my aunt so I am giving it to her for Christmas.   It will fit in with her house much better, and it just looks like her.  I have another old kit that I am going to make up for my brother.

Since finishing up, Past Times, I was able to put something new on the design wall, Comfort and Joy by Silver Thimble Quilt Co.  I am working on the last applique block, and have started on the connecting pieces.  I love this quilt and really want to get it finished in time for Christmas this year.  You probably see a theme here, Christmas; I am trying to make everyone in my family a Christmas quilt.  I did two last year, plan on doing two this year, and if I get Comfort and Joy finished, it will be mine.  Wish me luck. 

Design Wall Monday

Finally something new on my design wall, Past Times.  This is one of my New FO's for this year, it is a Moda kit that I have had for about 4 maybe five years.  One of my goals this year is to make up some of the  kits that I have, and whenever possible I am using them for gifts.  This one will be a Christmas present for either my brother or my aunt.  When I started it I thought I would give it to my brother, but now I am thinking that my aunt would really like it.  I want to make everyone in the family a Christmas quilt, the fabric for this one is not "overly" Christmasy.  It a really easy pattern, with large pieces.  I like the way the setting triangles are two different fabrics.   This would be a great pattern to do with precuts, too!!

Design Wall Monday

I finally have something on my design wall.  I am in the process of rearranging my sewing room and have been working on that instead of sewing.  This is a Bonnie Blue pattern, The Long Road Home, that several of us Thimbles did as a trade last summer.  I think that I am the only person who hasn't finished it.  It is on my UFO list for the year, and I hope to get it done this month.  I thought that I had all of the blocks sewn together but to my dismay I am short 20 of the pieced blocks.  I wanted to work on them today, however I am having some sort of elbow problem and it is painful to use  a rotary cutter.  (and of course I needed to cut some more of the 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 pieces.  DH came down while I was putting this on the design wall and made several positive comments about it. He said from a distance the little squares looked like marbles.  I have to say after I looked at it from where he was standing I agreed with him.  Wish me luck. 

Design Wall

Yes, that is a blank design wall.  There is absolutely nothing on it except a few threads from an old project.  I finished by Secret Santa Swap gift and that is the last thing that I have worked on.  Thanksgiving really wiped me out, and what Thanksgiving didn't wipe out having a root canal on Monday did.  Now I have to start decorating for Christmas.  One thing that I am very proud of is the fact that all, yes all of my Christmas shopping is done and most of it is wrapped.  Yeah!!!!  I hear my sewing room calling my name this weekend.

What is on my design wall

I can't believe that the first week of summer vacation is already gone!!! Oh No!! This has been a really busy week. Tuesday was spent at the dentist getting an old filling redone, not too bad, just one of those things. Wednesday was spent getting my hair done and with doctor's appointments. Thursday was spent doing yard work, cutting the grass and trimming up some bushes. Today I went to a retirement brunch for a friend and co-worker. It was great to see her and celebrate her retirement. After brunch I had some errands to run, returning some clothes I had ordered online, and picking up some books from the library.


Then it was time to do some sewing. A couple of years ago I went to a retreat where we made a scrappy batik quilt from Time To Quilt, (the one on the front of the book).I really enjoyed doing it and decided that I would make a
second one from flannel. I started it a over a year ago and have it listed on my UFO's to finish this year. For some reason I seem to have collected lots of flannel over the last few years. I thought this quilt would be perfect to use some of it up. I have enough blocks to make not one, but two quilts. I have promised myself that I will get these two quilts put together before I start on anything else. After the blocks are put together, there is a narrow gold inner border, there are also a dozen gold stars appliqued randomly across the quilt. The outer border will be homespun, (don't have that yet) I just really want to get the blocks and the inner border together. This has made a huge dent in my stash. I'm not saving all of the little odd pieces that are left after I cut the pieces for the blocks. It feels good to throw those tiny little bits and pieces away!
