Happy St. Patrick's Day, and National Quilting Day

Wow, two great holidays in one day, St. Patty's Day and National Quilting Day.  I  celebrated the quilting part last night at Thimbles.  There was great show and tell as usual, Sandra had really  been busy.  She had three great quilts, I love this one, but of course I don't remember the name of it.
Sandra's version of Yellow Brick Road, these colors are great.

Don't remember the name of this one either, but it was gorgeous.  Sandra is actually giving this one away.

Gretchen really isn't sideways, just couldn't get blogger to cooperate with me and turn it around.  This quilt is from 40 fabulous quilts, called American Beauty.

Today was busy doing house cleaning, gardening, and baking.  I remembered that I had a recipe for an Irish Cream pound cake (called for a trip to the liquor store), it is one of the prettiest pound cakes I have ever made; they usually fall apart coming out of the pan.  Not this one!!!  It came out perfectly look, and tasted wonderful.  This recipe is definitely a keeper.  Have a great St. Patrick's Day and a Quilty Day.

Sewing Day

Yeah, Thimbles weekend is finally here. It feels like forever since I have been sewing with everyone in the group. I wasn't able to go last month because of my foot surgery, so it has been a while. It was great to see everyone yesterday, unfortunately there are no photos, I forgot my camera. Everyone was busy working on their own projects. I love to go around and see what everyone is doing. Suzanne was working on a George Washington quilt, she loves Civil War fabrics. Teresa was working on a Bonnie Hunter scrap quilt, Becky was working on the "stones" quilt. Kathy, Becky's friend joined us and was working on a Yellow Brick Road in LSU fabrics. It is going to look great. Pat our fearless leader was working on another neutral quilt. I started my Grandpa's Best, all of the fabrics are cut and I made one of each of the two blocks in the quilt. I wanted to get a feel for how they were going to look. I decided that I needed to add a couple of more reds, and blues. I have been through my stash today and found just what I needed. Next week is stitch in, and I plan on going on Monday and Tuesday. I should be able to get most of the blocks put together. I do have several other projects packed and ready to go, who knows what I will work on. Can't wait for Monday.

UFO's oh My!!

My goal for this year is to knock out a lot of my UFO's. The last few years I seem to have been busy adding to that stack not decreasing, but this year things are going to change. Nancy over at Patchwork Penguin, has started a great UFO challenge, (thankfully you only have to list 10 UFO's) the challenge started in the first of the month, but better late than never. While selecting the ten UFO's to list I noticed that a lot of them are Thimble projects. I love all of the patterns that Pat designs and the kits that are put together by the local shops, and each quarter I want to purchase each of the kits. I try to limit myself to one kit a quarter but that still adds up to a lot of unfinished quilts. Time to buckle down and finish some of them. Wish me luck!
